49 Days Until I Start

Part of my planning was to work out what to do when I wasn’t riding.
Being (OCD) Bike Cautious, I’m not about to stray too far from my main form of transport.
I’m intellectually and very rudimentary ‘not-so-smart” even to work out how to play Sudoku, or was that at Solitaire? Anyhow, stuff like that is not going to interest me. Although – do factor this: I play online Chess. Maybe it is an attention span thing. Oh, and I can [code]

So, I’m taking a laptop along for the ride.
Not just any laptop, a Macbook Air 11″. I time-traveled to the good ole year of 2015 and grabbed one for the trip. Why? – it’s small and only weighs 1.08kg.
It fits in this purpose-made bag I ordered from Paper Roads Aotearoa.

Is it possible to ride for hours and then use a laptop afterward? I have no idea.

WTF do you do for a living?

Everyone who knows me rarely knows or understands what I do for a living. That may sound like a load of BS, but seriously, I bet you have no idea what I do.
I haven’t worked a 9 to 5 for many years. I’m self-employed, and I work when I can. Normally, that means hanging out at the Gym or a Coffee Shop. (well, that’s where you see me, mostly right!)

If you asked me in a Social setting, I would say I do nothing and retirement at my age is boring. And my wife, Shani, is Sugar Moma. That cover story sometimes works. Unfortunately, My other cover story of running an import-export business front has been slowly getting hard to maintain when you start blogging about all this stuff.

What if I told you I also work remotely as a contract Software Project Manager for an App Company you have never heard of?
We work on projects that you’ve never heard of either. It is almost like James Bond stuff in Q’s lab.
( At one stage, I was CTO for this outfit, but I shifted to Project Manager.)
Surely that’s believable.

Work doesn’t stop for me, even more so when Riding NZ. A good Internet connection, Macbook, and I’m good to go. I’m set up to work offline where needed. So that’s what I plan to do, off-bike. I mean, I’m not about to visit the museum.

Oh, wait, there is more.

I have a very exciting side project, ANNOUNCEMENT, and it is called “Kawhi.”
A project I have been working on since 2020
It is a Coffee App, and it will launch Globally in 2024.

The website went live a couple of days ago.
This milestone is the first public announcement, one I’m doing on my biking blog. Although, at the time of writing, we have nearly 500 followers on Instagram (and I haven’t even done a post there yet), this is more of a soft launch than swinging from the rafters, telling you how great it will be.

This is the Kawhi website. If you go to
www.kawhi.app and click on “Tell me More,” you will understand what this is.

Here is what it looks like in my office. But use your own Internet to find it ok.

See the counter, counting down. That means we have a lot of work still to do.

In mid-December 2023, we will open the site to accept users’ and vendors’ interest in testing the Beta. The Beta won’t be ready until the End of Q1 2024 (because we still have to code the back end), but we are optimistic that it may be ready sooner.

In January 2024, I will market this personally from Cape Regina to Bluff while riding.

The Kawhi project is another milestone because I taught myself how to code it. It will be a Native IOS / Android App.
I also built the website.

As a sneaky sneak-boo, look. Here are some screenshots of the actual Coded App screens.

Someone asked me the other day If I’m worried about this App being copied. The answer is No. Someone will try. It’s a compliment to my design and concept, if it is. I guess we are two years ahead of the game already. Competition is healthy.

Plus, everything for this App is done in-house. (I have a business partner). The concept, the design, the coding, and the App Platform (it runs on) are all us.

Oh, and the Bike.

Tannu’s inserts are in, and it’s been in the Bike Shop for some finer touches from Wensleys.
I’ve attempted to put it in an Air NZ bike box but couldn’t remove one pedal as it’s Stuck.
I know already; it doesn’t seem to all fit in one box. I’ll have to take it up over two bike boxes. Planning to pop into the Airport to discuss logistics and options. (next week’s job, Shani – I listened, its on the LIST!)

After I hung the washing out, I put the Tannu’s Inserts into the tires. #domestic duties first.

The damn pedal is stuck on the crank arm, and I’m not 100% if she’s gonna fit in the Box.

Tires, looking all Bad Arse next to the big scary box.

Back at Wensleys for some Brake Cable replacement, bleeding, fixes, etc.

And that’s it, folks. Catch you next week, and I think I will talk about all the cool Electronics I will be taking on the ride. (Yes, more things than the Macbook to carry) and how to Support me. (For those that have asked)

Oh, and here is a quick word from one of my Sponsors…
